Exhibition “Get Out of the Shadow”
The Museum of Military Childhood has opened an exhibition about the life of children during the Russian invasion of Ukraine from 2014 to the present day.
The exposition can be viewed at the Taras Shevchenko National Museum from June 30 to July 28 for free.
The main theme of the exhibition is the multiplicity of experiences that we live during the war, which create the fabric of modern Ukrainian society. In war narratives, the role of children is often reduced to victims or heroes. However, none of these perspectives explains what their daily life is like — communication in family and with friends, study, living conditions, games, recreation. In the end, children have very different experiences — from living in frontline territories and moving within the country or abroad to deportation and occupation.
The exhibition “Get Out of the Shadow” is a space about calm and sensitive contemplation and respectful perception of the experience of another. Children's testimonies collected by researchers and researchers of the museum will help to better understand what children experience in the conditions of war.
***The Museum of Military Childhood is an international museum with its head office in Sarajevo, Bosnia and Herzegovina. The museum documents the experiences of people whose childhood was affected by the war. In Ukraine, the Museum collects children's stories and related personal belongings, which make up the museum's collection and are exhibited at exhibitions in various cities of Ukraine and abroad. Today, the archives of the museum in Ukraine contain more than 400 stories and more than 500 related exhibits, some of which will be presented at the exhibition.
