Hunting with a kite. Oleksii Malykh
The exhibition is named after the work of the same name, written in 1992, and presents the artist's view of his painting of the 90s of the twentieth century. The works of this period were written in a workshop in the Carpathians, exhibited in Germany and France, and it so happened that almost no one saw them in Kiev. And now the artist looks at them not in the historical perspective, but through the optics of the present, from the point of view of his current work.
This is a look at the road ahead. It is the revelation of an artist-observer, a hunter who looks deep, within himself, and at the same time — above himself, turning hunting into contemplation and recording everything that happens outside.
The exhibition makes it possible to observe how the relationship between the artist and the objects of observation changes with the passage of time: in the new works, characters become not creatures, but landscapes, figurative images are reduced to graphic signs-symbols, the plots of stories about them are freed from sharp allusions and allegories, and the reality that surrounds them fits more tightly on canvas, wood or paper.
And these changes require a different artistic language — new forms, techniques, materials, colors.
The artist does not just hunt the world with an attentive gaze from on high: he observes the breath of the Earth, feels its anxieties and pain, delves into its eternity and mystery...
... The optical angle changes, imitating the movement of the kite's flight.
