Summer in the arms of the Dnieper
Dnipro is sung in poems and songs, on paper and canvas, in cinema and advertising. Shevchenko, Vingranovsky, Vakarchuk... Dnipro is a bright powerful symbol of cities and countries. Dnipro is the memory of Kyiv residents of all generations. How many romantic adventures are silent on Kiev beaches, how many testimonies the Pedestrian Bridge has heard and seen... How many fishermen quarreled over trifles near the Postal Square, how many yachts and boats are sadly waiting for peace and their captains on the shore... How many graduates met the dawn on the Dnieper hills, how many These waves swayed the wreaths on Ivan Kupal... Dnipro is not just the main waterway of the country, it is a magnet whose depth and vastness will always attract Kyiv residents and guests of the capital.
The exhibition project “Summer in the Arms of the Dnieper” presents the works of Ukrainian artists of the XX-XXI century. from the stock collection of the Museum of the History of Kyiv. The works of Sergey Shishko, Alexander Khvostenko-Khvostov, Yadviga Matseevskaya and other artists are inspired by the Kiev landscapes of the Dnieper and testify to the symbolic nature of the love of Kyiv residents to rest on the water. The presented painting and graphics not only convey the special atmosphere and beauty of the river, its banks, but also artistically document such processes asthe construction of a metro bridge, for example.
Different generations of Kievites witness the construction of new bridges and neighborhoods near the Dnieper, but they are all faithful to these waves, these islands, these floodplains. With this project, the Museum team responds in such an artistic way to the ever-present request - to admire the Dnieper. With loved ones or alone, at dawn or at sunset, in the rain or in the heat, on holidays or on weekdays, from the right bank or from the left... The main thing is the “expensive slopes of the Dnieper”.
