Museum-Reserve of Hetman of Ukraine Ivan Vygovskyi

Museum-reserve of the hetman of Ukraine Ivan Vygovskyi, operating in the village. Ruda Stryi district of Lviv region, former ancestral town of hetman, is a sector of Lviv National Gallery of Art named after B.G. Voznitsky.

The creation of this cultural and educational institution is connected with the stay of the hetman of the Zaporizhzhya Army in the Zhydachiv region in 1660—1664. According to many historical documents, it is here, on the territory of Ruda, that he is buried.

The small Galician town of Ruda, where in 2004 the first museum of Hetman I. was opened in Ukraine. Vygovsky (c. 1608 — 1664), was for a long time in the possession of the Russian voivode, the famous political and statesman of the People's Republic Ivan Danilovich (1570 — 1628), maternal grandfather of the most prominent King of the People's Republic of the 17th century. Jan III of Sobieski. It was he who, according to historical documents, hetman I. Vygovsky bought this town.

From 1660. Ruda, together with the surrounding villages, becomes the property of Vygovski and becomes a small residence of the hetman in Galicia. At that time, the city was famous for a well-fortified castle with a total area of more than 10 hectares, with various farm buildings. There was even a unique mill-fortress. Today, the earthen ramparts of the castle are clearly traced, and an oak tree grows on its territory, which, according to the testimony of historians, was planted by I. Vygovsky.

The exposition of the museum is arranged in a two-story building, where the hospital operated during the Soviet period. More than 400 exhibits are presented in the exhibition halls, including portraits of hetmans by famous Ukrainian and foreign artists, portraits and copies of portraits of political and statesmen of the Cossack state — Hetman region. There are many battle paintings showing historical battles with the participation of Cossack troops, as well as works of sacred art, in particular icons of the XVII — XVIII centuries from the family church of Vygovski in the village. Iosipovichi Stryi district of Lviv region A unique exhibit is the entrance door from this Church of the Exaltation of the Holy Cross, the founder of which was the daughter-in-law of I. Vygovsky, Teresa Zavadskaya. The museum also exhibits household items used by the hetman and his family, donated or deposited by the descendants of the family.

The museum exposition is complemented by works of art donated by famous Ukrainian artists, sculptors, folk masters, natives and natives of Zhydachiv and Khodoriv lands, including Zenoviy Ketsalo, Vladimir Patyk, Yevhen Manishin, Myron Yatsiv, Roman Romanovich and many others.
