Chernihiv Regional Art Museum named after Grigory Galagan

Regional Art Museum in Chernihiv; local valuable collection of works of art, regional center of culture and aesthetic education. Created in 1983. Located on the territory of the ancient princely city in a monument of architecture of the 19th century, it even outwardly corresponds to the idea of the museum as a place that bears the imprint of time, a reflection of the history and culture of our people. You will be inspired by the masterpieces of Western European and Ukrainian art, the unique collection of the Cossack-Elder Galagans family from the museum collection, which includes more than 9 thousand works of fine and decorative arts from the 16th century to the present, including the iconic heritage of the times Ukrainian Baroque, folk paintings “Cossack Mamay”, canvases by Dutch, Flemish, French, Italian artists.The main place in the museum collection is occupied by works of icon painting, mostly Ukrainian, among which the canonical “Archangel Michael”, collection Virgin icons, an original folk icon with a peculiar interpretation of one or another image of the saint - the patron saint, two-sided “Patronage of the Virgin. Crucifixion.”
