Askania-Nova is a real miracle not only in the Azov region, but also of the whole Ukraine. It is the oldest steppe biosphere reserve on the planet and the largest European steppe protected area. In the local ecosystems there are more than 500 species of higher plants and more than 3 thousand species of animals.

In 1984, the UNESCO Council added Ascania to the list of reference territories of the planet.
